Web is home to grassroots patient safety movements

Grassroots groups are using the Web to get behind patient safety issues. The Wall Street Journal highlighted Web sites such as josieking.org, a Web site created by a woman whose 18-month-old daughter died from preventable medical errors. She has a blog about patient safety, and families can share their own experiences as well. Visitors can also receive support from other users and advice from medical and legal experts. The site also provides tools for hospitals. In its resources section are recommended reading items and links to articles, including one from a February issue of the Los Angeles Times entitled "Secrecy's dangerous side effects," which discusses Eli Lilly's Zyprexa settlement. The Wall Street Journal also featured the organizations PulseAmerica.org, SurgicalFire.org, and Medically Induced Trauma Support Services.
